Sunday 5th December 2021 – Statement regarding Pye Green Community Centre
Hednesford Town Council is aware that following a breach of confidentiality, a number of posts have been made on social media regarding the future of Pye Green Community Centre. These posts contain false, misleading, incomplete and inaccurate information which is causing undue distress to several parties.
Pye Green Community Centre is not owned by Hednesford Town Council. It is owned by Cannock Chase District Council and Hednesford Town Council is the leaseholder.
We can confirm that Hednesford Town Council is currently considering how best to secure the future of Pye Green Community Centre, as a local community facility, while also working to address its long-standing financial underperformance.
On Tuesday 7th December, Hednesford Town Council will meet and will be presented with a range of options to consider, with the aim of both securing the future of the Community Centre and preventing the need for an increase in the Council’s precept (Council Tax) at a time when residents across the Town are struggling financially and continue to be impacted by Covid-19 and the state of the UK economy.
To support discussion and debate, Council will need to review a range of information relating to the Centre’s operations, which could cause further distress if presented in public. The discussion will therefore take place in a private section of the Council Meeting.
Members of the public have the opportunity to address Council at the start of the meeting only. The Council meeting will then commence immediately after.
The paper regarding Pye Green Community Centre will be heard and discussed in private business at the end of the meeting which is only open to the ten Town Councillors. This section of the meeting will not be open to the public and will not be streamed on Zoom.
We are mindful that only limited space is available in Pye Green Community Centre foyer to host the public at a time where Covid cases are quite high, we would therefore encourage any members of the public wishing to join the meeting via Zoom – details available here:
A further statement will be made by Hednesford Town Council on Wednesday.
