Hednesford community groups share almost £5,000 in grants

Representatives of Hednesford voluntary groups were praised for their tireless work at a special event where town councillors handed out nearly £5,000 in grants.

Hednesford Town Council chairman Alan Pearson told them: “You are the backbone of our town. You get so much done on behalf of the people in our community and we are sincerely grateful. We are proud to support you with grants for your invaluable work.”

His announcement was made at a special event as the town council shared £4,868 of funding between 22 charities and organisations.

Support Staffordshire Voluntary Car Scheme received £900. Community First Responders, Greenheath AFC and Brindley Village Legacy Group benefited by £500. Hednesford Probus Computer Club had its rent at Pye Green Community Centre covered to the amount of £418 while Hednesford Town FC Supporters Club was granted £350. Chase Parkinson’s Group received £200. Both Chadsmoor, Hednesford & District Competitive Music Festival and Katherine House Hospice were awarded £100.

Schools and organisations that took part in Hednesford’s Christmas event also received cheques.

Making the presentations, Finance Committee chairman Derek Davis paid tribute to participants in last year’s festivities, saying it was the best ever after Hednesford Town Council funded the lights.

Hednesford Centennial Lions and Hednesford in Partnership both received £250.

The following schools and organisations were each awarded £100: Pye Green Academy, Chadsmoor Infants School, Hednesford Valley High, Staffordshire University Academy, West Hill Primary School, Kingsmead School, St Peter’s School, Split Mask Company, Songbirds in Harmony, Cannock Chase Drum Corps and Burntwood Rotary.
