Hednesford councillors show solidarity with Thai caves rescuers

Councillors in Hednesford have been thanked for their solidarity after supporting rescuers who saved 12 Thai schoolboys and their football coach trapped in a flooded cave.

They wrote to the Thai ambassador to Great Britain to express their good wishes after the boys were rescued before the British diving team arrived home.
They also expressed their condolences after the loss of Thai Navy SEAL Saman Kunan who ran out of oxygen during the perilous rescue at Tham Luang cave.
Thai Consul Michaya Sinlhinson wrote back to thank them for their concern at a “time of great distress.”
He wrote:  “Thank you for your thoughts and prayers. The rescue mission of the trapped boys would not have been successful without international support.”
Council chairman Alan Pearson said: “As a former mining community we are aware of so many past disasters and the dangers of working underground.
“There isn’t always a happy outcome and we also wanted to express our sorrow after the brave Navy officer lost his life.”
The Consul added: “He is a true hero and will be remembered.”
