Festival fun in Hednesford this summer
Hednesford will be celebrating this summer with its annual festival for the whole community.
Hednesford Festival is taking place on Saturday 12 August between 12 noon and 6pm in Hednesford Park and Town Centre. The artisan market will be in the town centre from 9am.
This year, the event is being organised by Hednesford in Partnership who were awarded £10,000 from the Celebrate Big Lottery Fund to help put on a fantastic and memorable event. It is also being supported by Cannock Chase Council, Inspiring healthy lifestyles, Friends of Hednesford Park, Hednesford Town Council and Hednesford Lion`s Club.
Hednesford in Partnership carried out a consultation exercise at the beginning of the year to build on the success of last year and to involve the community in shaping this year’s event. As a result of this, there will be a live music stage all day, which will showcase local talent. It will finish with the headlining band – The Trip.
In addition to this, a professional dog agility show will be on throughout the day to entertain our local dog lovers. This will be supported by a local `Scruffs` competition where local dogs can be entered, to be in with a chance of being crowned ‘Hednesford Scruffs Champion 2017’. Further details will be provided on Hednesford in Partnership`s Facebook page.
There will be lots of fun activities and displays in the park throughout the day including:
- Old fashioned team games
- Grow Up Great zone for children aged 5 and under
- Skate park & Parkour displays and competitions
- A World War 1 experience
- Maypole workshops
- Fun fair rides
- Various market stalls
- Inclusive cycling
- Tennis tournament, 2pm – 4pm
If you are a keen Parkour enthusiast, get in touch as the event will be a great opportunity to show off your skills using the newequipment in the park.
The old fashioned games will be hosted by The Friends of Hednesford Park. Games will include a Target sprint by Rugeley Rifle Club, tug of war, various races and an inflatable assault course. Games will be suitable for teams up to six, so if you think you’re up for a challenge, why not come along and take part or you can sign up on the day.
The artisan market will be in the town centre throughout the day.
Paul Woodhead, Vice Chair of Hednesford in Partnership, said “Driven from the success of the Festival last year and the consultation undertaken with residents, we are delighted that groups from across the community are coming together to deliver a celebration, bringing our whole community together.”
Councillor Christine Mitchell, Leader of Culture and Sport said “Hednesford Festival is going to be a fantastic day of celebration, full of activities for people of all ages to enjoy. It is a free community event so everyone is invited to attend. There is going to be lots going on both in the park and the town centre – so come along and join in the fun this summer.”
Creative Development Manager Lisa Shephard, from Inspiring healthy lifestyles said “It has been a pleasure to support the community partners on this event. It provides local artists and performing art groups who work hard all year round for its community a chance to shine. Even our little ones can enjoy free arts and crafts as part of the ‘Grow Up Great’ in Cannock Chase initiative.”
Andy Williams, volunteer from The Friends of Hednesford Park explained “It was so good to see the park filled with activities last year and this year will have far more, we are particularly excited about the dog show and competition for our local dogs. We are very grateful to Hednesford in Partnership and the many passionate local community groups working together on this event to showcase our lovely town and park.”
