Hednesford Town Council’s minute’s silence for Carol
Hednesford Town councillors paid tribute to businesswoman and community volunteer Carol Fittes who died after a short cancer battle.
Council chairman Alan Pearson asked colleagues to join him in a minute’s silence at this week’s council meeting. He said the minute should honour Carol, who died aged just 45, alongside the victims of tragedies in London and Manchester.
He asked for it to be put on record that Hednesford Town Council was grateful to Carol for her work supporting publicity and its website, but also for all her backing of her community with Hednesford in Partnership and the Heart of Hednesford.
Councillor Pearson said that he had attended Carol’s funeral and her death was a tragic loss to all those who knew her. “She was a lovely woman and her loss will hit very hard,” he said.
Mother-of-two Carol was chair of Hednesford in Partnership and former secretary of Heart of Hednesford.
The community group said in a statement this week: “Carol was so passionate about her home town, and it was only with her words of encouragement and kindness that prevented Heart of Hednesford from folding in leaner times before she moved on to be the initial driving force, that ensured the success of Hednesford in Partnership. She was totally committed to getting the best for Hednesford, and her dedication, positive outlook and enthusiasm will be greatly missed. We hope that you will agree that the best legacy we can give to Carol is to ensure that we continue what she started; working hard and working in partnership to ensure that we do everything we can to make Hednesford a wonderful town to live, love and discover.”
Carol died in Wolverhampton’s Compton Hospice on Sunday, May 21.
