On Your Bike with Hednesford Town Council

With Cannock Chase hosting the 2022 Commonwealth Games’ mountain biking event, it seems that next door neighbour Hednesford is also moving up a gear following the installation of two new bike stores to promote the enjoyment that cycling has to offer.

Residents of Hednesford can now ride around the town and park their bikes safely in one of the distinctive cycle-shaped green stands, which can be seen outside of the library and William Hill.

Town mayor Emma Hunneyball said: “Cycling is really popular in this area, and more people have taken upcycling during lockdown, so, we felt it important to provide the facilities to securely accommodate bikes.

“Hednesford Town Council is on a mission to promote green travel as well as attract more people into the town itself, and this is just one of the ways we’re accommodating change thanks to funding from Tesco and Aldi.”

Emma goes on to say that the Council recognises the importance of exercise for local people’s physical and mental wellbeing, and hopes that with the lead up to the Games and these new facilities, it will inspire more people to be active, leave the car at home and take to the road.

Emma concludes: “It’s the first time we’ve had proper storage for bikes so we can’t wait to see local people utilising the new resource. We hope this will also reduce the number of people driving into the town centre which is great for green travel in and around Hednesford.

“Whether people are planning a family bike ride followed by lunch in the town, or are considering swapping the car for a bike on the local commute, the new storage offers a reason for people to put their helmets on and get pedalling again.”
