Hednesford Town Council commits to Citizens Advice as it hands £5,000 of grants to local organisations
The announcement was made at a special event at which the council handed 21 grants totaling £5,000 to local charities and organisations.
Charities and organisations from Hednesford are presented with their grants.
Derek Davis, finance committee chairman, said: “We are delighted to confirm funding for another year for this vital service, which helps the most vulnerable in our community. It is a wonderful facility that does good work in helping many local people and we believe that it’s a very worthwhile cause to support.”
Among the cheques presented to groups was one for £354 for the Community Speedwatch Group in North Hednesford, which is helping to fight the problem of speeding traffic along roads, including Green Heath Road, Pye Green Road and Bradbury Road. The money will pay for specialist monitoring equipment.
A £700 donation was handed to Chadsmoor Tapestry Group, for its work on producing a tapestry depicting Hednesford landmarks, while Brindley Village Legacy Group was presented with £500.
Chase Parkinson’s Group received £200; the Friends of Hednesford Park £250; Heart of Hednesford, had £300 to enable it to continue looking after the Miners’ Memorial and other local landmarks; St Peter’s Church was given £500, which will go towards its access improvements; and Hednesford in Partnership, the umbrella body for the local voluntary sector, was handed £550.
Katherine House Hospice and Hednesford Town FC Supporters each received £100, while Greenheath FC received £300.
Hednesford Probus and the Ladies Social groups received donations in kind of £352 and £700 respectively, which will be in lieu of room hire at Pye Green Community Centre, where they meet every week.
Schools and organisations that took part in the Christmas event also received cheques – £100 each to Hednesford Valley High School, Staffordshire University Academy, Kingsmead, St Peter’s, Pye Green Academy and West Hill Primary school; and Burntwood Rotary. Hednesford Lions received £200.
